Full
day excursion After breakfast we depart from
Punta Piedras Lodge. A comfortable
and modern car takes us to Puerto Montt
towards west to the spectacular Carretera Austral
(The Southern Road) until Caleta La Arena.
At this point we board a ferryboat for about 40 minutes
to our next stop, Puelche. We continue
our trip along the coast of the Estuary of Reloncavi
arriving to Soldado Gomez a small port
located on the mouth of Botapiedras River.
The real adventure starts here when we board our motorboat
to navigate the area where we will see hundreds of sea
lions (loberias), small islands, different types of
birds, green forests and the wonderful scenary around
us.
We will have the opportunity to visit a real “nursery”
of molluscs in the small coastal village of Sotomo where
we will taste a delicious “curanto”
at lunch time. Curanto is a typical
dish prepared with seafood, fish and meat specially
steam cooked covered with potatoes, greenpeas and other
vegetables. It results an exotic combination worth to
try. All these accompanied with excellent wines to end
up with traditional mouthwatering desserts.
There will be free time to relax, take pictures or just
admire the outstanding location where the Andes
fade into the Ocean, the native flora
and fauna that fascinated Charles Darwin,
the natural waterfalls in an athmosphere of tremendous
peace.
At 5 pm we begin our return trip sailing back to Soldado
Gomez. Our car will drive us to Tenglo
Island via the Carretera Austral
to Puerto Montt or around the shores
of Llanquihue Lake along Ensenda,
Puerto Varas and Alerce.
Return to Punta Piedras Lodge.
